Over the weekend, I brought my friend for an out-of-the ordinary IfOnly experience to design a flower bouquet with Aline Dazogbo, owner of Voila SF. Through IfOnly, many of the hosts support different causes – this experience in particular benefits Tipping Point which helps fight against poverty through education, employment, and housing.
The space itself was a delight – a mix of fashion, accessories by local designers, a floral workshop, and a mani-pedi spa – I was in love instantly. There’s something about minimal elegance and the perfect curation to things of meaning and exactness.
Aline was wonderful and the perfect teacher for this experience. With her background in fashion design from Paris, we learned about balance, how wasteful the flower industry can be, how her flower selection are sourced from local farmers in slow fashion (very much in line with OA philosophy).
Starting with selecting the vase, Aline walked us through how a bouquet is put together, adding and subtracting as it goes on, taking into consideration the balance of the piece from all directions and angles. It was a lovely, memorable and meditative experience – we made it home with two lovely masterpieces for the table.
