I have a love-hate relationship with Black Friday.
It’s the time of year when the weather turns and it feels like the holidays – and in conjunction, shopping! I never liked the mad rush of shoppers getting crazy deals on Black Friday. As someone with little patience for waiting in lines, it’s easy for me to avoid this day – especially since all it does is sell me a bunch of things I don’t need.
However, I can’t lie that some of these deals stores are offering are quite awesome and very tempting. My guide for holiday shopping is as follows:
Always follow the minimalist rules of buying things you love, find useful, and have longevity (unless it’s perishable). Coats always make great gifts as they always come in handy, are great quality, and last the wearer more than one year. For accessories, I find value in jewelry where it’s chemical composition doesn’t change with time, and belts, bags and boots always are very practical as they can be paired with multiple outfits.
Don’t let the marketing throw you overboard. Walking by the mall everyday – I see deals every week and have become immune to the sales stores offer. I’d probably be more prone to shop on Cyber-Monday (so there’s no lines and a wider selection), but there’s some fun in rummaging through racks on a day you’re typically working. Have fun!
